How To Set Up Your Youtube Channel Effectively – Part 1

As you all may be aware Youtube is now fully owned by Google so it is linked extricably to the Google platform. In order to start to create your channel you will need a Google Gmail account.

That is because to sign into YouTube you will need to link your Gmail address with the account. This will give you access to all of Google basic products (e.g. Gmail, Google Groups, Picasa, Web History, YouTube).

If you have already set up an account you are ready to sign in, enter the email address and password you registered with and if you need to create an account, you can create one when you sign up for YouTube.

Then you will need to confirm your account. If you have used the same mobile number or landline before you may be asked for a different number – just beware.

To use your account on YouTube, you need to confirm the email address on your Google Account.

  1. 1. An email will be sent to confirm your email address.
  2. 2. Check your email and locate the confirmation email (subject: “Google Email Verification”). Follow the steps in the email to confirm your email address.

There are some things to remember about Google Accounts and YouTube:

  • When you sign in on YouTube, you enter your Google Account email and password.
  • If you delete your Google Account will delete your YouTube data, including all videos, comments, and subscriptions
  • Some older YouTube accounts are not part of a Google Account. This is only possible if the account was created before May 2009 and you haven’t signed in to it since 2011. These are called legacy YouTube accounts.

To sign into these legacy accounts, you need to enter your YouTube username (instead of your email address) into the Email field

  • when signing in. Once you sign in, you’ll immediately be asked to add your YouTube account to a new or existing Google Account.

So by this stage you should be on the opening page of your YouTube Account – watch out for our next post in this series
